The Women We Honour

Tanya Shand, age 33

Tanya Shand, Rothesay, N.B was brutally stabbed over 21 times and her throat was cut on May 22, 2013 by her ex- common law partner while their 6 year old daughter begged her father to stop. The police responded quickly to a 911 call from a neighbour’s apartment; still Tanya died at the scene. Weeks earlier, Tanya had broken off the relationship and had planned to move in with her mother and sister that very weekend. Her ex-common law partner was charged with second-degree murder. He was found dead in his jail cell a week later. Tanya was generous, honest and sensitive. She was a loving mother, daughter, sister and friend. She was loved by those she met and could be counted on to help anyone in need. Tanya graduated from KVHS and later studied in Halifax and received a Certificate in Massage Therapy. Her dream of working in her field were dashed when her relationship with her ex lead to financial trouble. Tanya was working at Wyndham Worldwide at the time of her death where she is remembered for her kind spirit. Tanya's life was dedicated to her family and providing a good life for her daughter who she relished spending time with. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
