The Women We Honour

Michèle Renault, age 41

Michèle Renault, Shédiac, N.B., died on July 13th, 1992 after her common-law partner struck her repeatedly with a hammer. Prior to her murder, Michèle’s relationship with her partner had become intolerable, and she had sought legal advice. Her lawyer had sent him a letter requesting that he vacate their home within three weeks, and offering him a financial settlement for his investment in the house. Jealous and furious that Michèle would not tell him where she had gone, an argument broke out and he killed her. Michèle’s eight year old daughter was present in the home at the time of the murder. H e admitted to the slaying and was convicted of second degree murder. Michèle had two daughters. She was a translator. She enjoyed reading and playing the piano. Her love of music ranged from the classical to jazz. She never hesitated to stand up for what she believed in. Michèle was an adventurous and hard-working individual.
