Melanie Davis, 28 years

Melanie Davis, Saint John, N.B., was handcuffed and brutally stabbed and cut over 25 times on May 10, 2010 by her estranged husband. He then left her bleeding in a parking lot. Melanie was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. Melanie had ended their five year marriage just a couple of weeks earlier. Her husband had told people “if I can’t have her, nobody else can have her.” He pled guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to life with no eligibility of parole for 20 years.

Mel was the best thing that ever happened to her mother and her father. She was a thoughtful, kind and loving person. Melanie had a soft spot for kids and animals; she treated the family pets like her brothers, and loved her niece and nephew like they were her own children. She was a person who loved life and all she ever wanted was to be a Mom. When she was killed it was the worst thing that could and ever will ever happen to her family.
